Sustainable Knitwear Manufacturing — Our Commitment
Circular design, certified fibers, traceable supply chain — ESG-aligned knitwear sourcing from Gaziantep.
The fashion industry is at a pivotal moment. Increasingly stringent regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) – with its January 2026 deadline – and the upcoming General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) are demanding unprecedented transparency and accountability. Simultaneously, the REACH SVHC candidate list continues to expand, and consumers are actively seeking brands that demonstrate genuine environmental and social responsibility. Sourcing decisions are no longer solely about price and quality; they are about mitigating risk, ensuring compliance, and building a resilient, future-proof supply chain. Kiwi Giyim is prepared to be your partner in navigating this complex landscape.

Fiber & Yarn: Where It All Starts
At Kiwi Giyim, we understand that sustainability begins with the raw materials. We offer a diverse range of responsibly sourced fibers to meet your specific needs. We are GOTS-ready for organic cotton, meaning our processes are aligned for certification upon request. We actively source Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton, supporting more sustainable farming practices. For synthetic options, we utilize Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified recycled polyester, diverting plastic waste from landfills. Beyond these, we offer TENCEL™ Lyocell, a sustainably produced cellulosic fiber, and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified wool.
Our yarn sourcing is carefully managed, with strong relationships built across the supply chain. We primarily source yarns from Turkey, but also have established partnerships in Egypt and Uzbekistan, allowing us to trace materials back to their origin. We can provide supplier declarations and detailed information on yarn composition and origin for full transparency.
Flat-Knit = Zero-Waste by Design
Unlike traditional cut-and-sew manufacturing, flat-knit production is inherently more sustainable. We operate 22 flat-knit machines – 15 Shima Seiki and 7 Stoll CMS – enabling us to create garments with minimal fabric waste. Our WHOLEGARMENT® 3D knitting capability further reduces waste by producing fully fashioned pieces directly on the machine, eliminating cutting and sewing altogether.
The industry average for fabric waste in cut-and-sew is between 15-20%. At Kiwi Giyim, we consistently achieve fabric waste of less than 3%. This translates to significant savings in material costs and a reduced environmental footprint. This efficiency is a core benefit of choosing flat-knit manufacturing.
Energy, Water & Emissions
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact across all operations. We are developing a roadmap for solar panel installation, aiming to generate a significant portion of our energy needs on-site. Currently, approximately 42% of the electricity supplied to the Turkish national grid is from renewable sources (as of 2025), and we benefit from this increasingly green energy mix.
Water usage is a critical consideration in textile manufacturing. While dyeing processes are water-intensive, our flat-knit production requires minimal water compared to traditional weaving or dyeing facilities. We are actively monitoring our water-use ratio and exploring opportunities for further reduction. We are currently calculating our garment weighted average (GWP) per garment to establish a baseline for emissions reduction.
Chemical Safety: OEKO-TEX, REACH, CPSIA
Kiwi Giyim prioritizes chemical safety to protect both our workers and your end consumers. We are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, ensuring our products are free from harmful substances. We are fully REACH compliant, meticulously monitoring and managing chemicals used in our production processes. We actively track the REACH SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) candidate list and proactively substitute any restricted substances.
We adhere to the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) and guarantee the absence of AZO dyes. For brands selling in the US, we ensure compliance with California Proposition 65 (Prop 65). We partner with reputable test houses, including SGS, Bureau Veritas, and Intertek, for independent verification and quality control.
Social Sustainability: Fair Labor
Our team of 50 people is the heart of Kiwi Giyim. We are committed to providing a safe, fair, and respectful working environment. We uphold all core conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), including freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining. We maintain a strict policy against forced labor and child labor.
We are committed to transparent wage practices and ensure all employees receive at least the Turkish national minimum wage, with adjustments planned to align with future increases. We are actively preparing for the increased reporting requirements of the CSRD, ensuring full transparency in our labor practices.
Packaging & Shipping
We minimize our environmental impact throughout the entire supply chain, including packaging and shipping. We utilize recyclable mono-material polybags for garment protection. All shipping boxes are made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified cardboard. We prioritize consolidated shipments to reduce transportation emissions. Sea freight is our default shipping method, minimizing our carbon footprint compared to air freight.
Traceability & Documentation
We understand the growing need for supply chain transparency. We provide comprehensive documentation, including supplier declarations and material passports, detailing the origin and composition of all materials. We are building systems to support CSRD-ready data reporting, providing detailed information on environmental and social performance. We offer invoice-level origin tracking for complete traceability.
Our 2026-2028 Roadmap
We are committed to continuous improvement and have ambitious sustainability goals for the future. Our key targets include:
- 2026: Complete solar panel installation to offset a significant portion of our energy consumption.
- 2027: Achieve GOTS certification for organic cotton production.
- 2028: Implement a zero-waste-to-landfill program, diverting all waste from landfills through recycling and reuse initiatives.
- 2028: Pursue ISO 14001 certification for our environmental management system.
