Yarn Is the Foundation of Performance

Before a single course is knitted, performance is decided at the cone. Fibre choice governs thermoregulation, moisture handling, stretch, recovery and how a garment ages over hundreds of wash cycles. We build to the brief — and we are transparent that every yarn, and its certification, is supplier-sourced and traceable to the spinner, never claimed as our own.

Natural performance fibres

  • Merino wool — fine-micron (typically 17.5–19.5µm) for next-to-skin base layers: breathable, odour-resistant and thermoregulating across a wide temperature range.
  • Cotton & cotton blends — combed and mercerised options for softness, sheen and dimensional stability in lifestyle and athleisure knits.
  • Cashmere, lambswool & alpaca — warmth-to-weight for premium mid-layers where loft matters more than abrasion.

Technical & engineered blends

  • Merino–nylon (core-spun) — wool comfort wrapped on a nylon core for the abrasion resistance and durability active layers demand.
  • Elastane / spandex — controlled stretch and recovery so body-mapped zones hold their shape through movement.
  • Recycled & functional synthetics — polyester and polyamide, including recycled equivalents, for fast-drying, lightweight constructions.

Structure and Gauge, Engineered to the Application

Gauge — the number of needles per inch — sets the density, weight and hand of the fabric. We knit from a chunky 3gg through to a fine 14gg, matching gauge to function rather than habit: a lofty 5gg for an insulating layer, a clean 12gg for a smooth base layer. Within a single panel we engineer stitch structure to do real work.

Seamless WHOLEGARMENT, Built for Movement

On Shima Seiki WHOLEGARMENT machines a garment is knitted as a single three-dimensional piece — no side seams, no shoulder seams, no linking. For performance and next-to-skin wear this matters: seams are the usual source of chafe, pressure points and bulk. A seamless body maps cleanly to the wearer, distributes stretch evenly and removes the friction lines that fail first in active use. It also cuts make-up labour and trim waste, since shaping, ribs and finished edges are formed on the machine. We stay candid about fit — knit-to-shape favours a clean, close, body-mapped silhouette, and we will tell you when a style is better served by classic flat-knit panels.

Engineering is only as good as its repeatability. Quality is checked at every stage rather than inspected in at the end — so the ten-thousandth piece matches the approved sample.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between flat-knit and seamless WHOLEGARMENT?

Flat-knit produces shaped panels that are then linked or cut-and-sewn together; WHOLEGARMENT knits the entire garment as one three-dimensional piece with no side or shoulder seams. Seamless suits next-to-skin and performance wear because it removes chafe points and bulk, while flat-knit gives more freedom in heavy gauges and structured silhouettes. We run both and advise per style.

Which yarns work best for performance and base-layer knitwear?

For next-to-skin layers, fine-micron merino leads on breathability, thermoregulation and odour resistance, while core-spun merino–nylon adds the durability active wear demands. Synthetic and recycled blends give fast-drying, lightweight performance, and a touch of elastane provides stretch and recovery. Every yarn is supplier-sourced with its certification (such as OEKO-TEX or GOTS) traceable to the spinner.

How do I choose the right gauge for my product?

Gauge is the needle count per inch and sets fabric weight and hand. Coarser gauges (around 3–7gg) give lofty, insulating, textured knits; finer gauges (around 12–14gg) give smooth, lightweight, close-fitting fabric ideal for base layers. We match gauge to the end use and can sample more than one option to compare.

Can you work from my tech pack and grade my size range?

Yes. Send a tech pack, measurements and target yarn — or a reference garment and a brief — and we translate it into a knittable spec. We sample, refine the fit and grade across your full size range before the approved sample becomes the production standard, all produced under your own label.

What is your minimum order, and how do certifications work?

Our minimum order is 250 pieces. We are a pure OEM and private-label manufacturer, so all material certifications (OEKO-TEX, GOTS and similar) are supplier-sourced and documented from the spinner or supplier rather than issued by us. You receive the traceable certificate that applies to your specific yarn.
