The maths is exact from the gauge you enter, but real gauge shifts with yarn, machine and finishing, so confirm the count on a tension swatch.
⚠️ The stitch and row maths is exact; the count is indicative until you swatch. The tool applies your gauge with fixed arithmetic — stitches = width × (stitch gauge ÷ 10) and rows = length × (row gauge ÷ 10) — so those numbers are not estimates. But the gauge itself is not fixed: yarn, machine gauge, tension and finishing all move it, and a 5% shift is several centimetres over a full panel. Confirm the real gauge on a tension swatch before locking a production spec.
A knitted panel is just a grid: a fixed number of stitches across and a fixed number of rows down. Once you know your gauge — how many stitches and rows sit in a 10 cm span — the two numbers fall straight out of the panel's width and length. This tool does exactly that, with nothing hidden.

Read the cast-on count as your starting row on the needle bed, and the row count as how far to knit before binding off. Because stitch gauge and row gauge are almost never the same number, always measure both on the same swatch — using stitch gauge for rows (or the reverse) is the most common way a finished piece ends up the wrong length. For a graded garment, run each size's finished width and length through the tool to build the full stitch-and-row map before you knit.

The arithmetic is exact, but your gauge is not a fixed constant — yarn, machine gauge, knitting tension and finishing all move it. A gauge that is only 5% off still drifts by several centimetres across a 50 cm panel. Knit a tension swatch, measure the real stitch and row gauge, and feed those figures back into the calculator before committing.
