Premium fiber knitwear — merino wool, cashmere blends, alpaca, merino-cashmere — is a category where the factory matters as much as the fiber. These yarns are more expensive, more sensitive to handling and finishing conditions, and more prone to quality issues if the production environment isn't calibrated for them. Turkey's flat-knit ecosystem has produced premium wool knitwear for European fashion brands for decades; the quality infrastructure is there. Here's an honest picture of what we can source, what certifications are available, and which brands this suits.

Fibers We Work With

01

Merino Wool

Merino is our most common premium fiber. We source from European and Uruguayan spinners (Südwolle, Loro Piana yarn division, Biella-based mills) and Turkish spinners with European yarn standards. Typical count range for flat-knit: 2/28Nm to 2/60Nm depending on gauge. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified yarn is available from most of our suppliers.

02

Cashmere Blends

Pure cashmere is available but significantly raises per-unit cost. Most mid-luxury brands work with cashmere blends — typically 10–30% cashmere with merino or fine wool — which deliver softness and perceived luxury at a more workable price point. We work with Mongolian and Inner Mongolian cashmere sourced through Italian and Turkish spinners. For UFLPA-conscious brands, we can source cashmere with non-XUAR documentation.

03

Merino-Cashmere

Merino-cashmere blends (typically 70/30 or 80/20 merino/cashmere) are a popular position for US premium brands — the cashmere content provides marketing value and genuine softness; the merino structure maintains durability and reduces pilling compared to pure cashmere. Available in superfine Merino (18.5–19 micron) for true luxury handle.

04

Alpaca Blends

Baby alpaca and alpaca-merino blends are growing in demand from US sustainable fashion brands. Alpaca is naturally odor-resistant, thermoregulating and doesn't require superwash treatments. We source baby alpaca from Peruvian suppliers with GRS and Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS) certifications available.

Certifications and Traceability

For US brands with sustainability commitments or retailer requirements, here's what's realistically available:

What we don't carry by default: GOTS (which requires organic fiber from the fiber level up — not common in our premium wool category). If you need GOTS-certified organic merino or cotton knitwear, this is achievable but requires specific yarn sourcing with lead time and cost implications.

Quality Requirements for Premium Fiber Production

Premium fiber knitwear has specific production requirements that affect cost and timeline. Merino and cashmere require careful tension control during knitting — tension that's too tight causes excessive shrinkage; too loose causes pilling and loss of structure. The washing and finishing process is critical: merino needs a controlled wet-finishing step that sets the dimensions and handles. Our factory has wet-finishing equipment calibrated for premium wool and cashmere — this is not universal across all knitwear factories.

Pilling resistance is the most common quality complaint with mid-grade cashmere and merino. We evaluate yarn quality by fiber micron count and twist, and can provide anti-pilling specifications. The honest answer: no merino or cashmere garment is completely pill-free. What varies is the degree and speed of pilling — which is a function of yarn quality, finishing and care. We'll advise on care labeling that sets accurate expectations for end consumers.

Which Brands This Suits

Premium fiber knitwear from Turkey makes most sense for mid-luxury and premium basics brands targeting the $80–$300+ retail price range for sweaters. The per-unit cost of merino and cashmere-blend knitwear is higher than cotton or acrylic; the retail price needs to support it. This isn't the right lane for fast-fashion price points. We work well with DTC brands building quality-positioned basics lines, boutique wholesale brands looking for premium point-of-difference product, and established brands diversifying their premium capsule into non-China production. MOQ is the same — 250 pieces per style-color — with higher unit cost due to yarn cost.
