Care Labels & Fibre Content

Labelling looks like a detail until a shipment is held at customs over it. Here's how to get knitwear's fibre content, care and origin labelling right.

Labels are a legal requirement in most markets, not just branding. Getting them right keeps customs smooth and returns down; getting them wrong can stop a shipment.

Fibre content

Most markets require an accurate fibre composition by weight (e.g. “70% Merino Wool, 30% Cashmere”), using recognised fibre names. Percentages must reflect the actual blend within tolerance — declaring the wrong content is a common and avoidable compliance failure.

Care instructions

Care symbols communicate washing, drying, ironing and professional-care guidance. The EU/much of the world uses GINETEX/ISO symbols; the US uses ASTM care labelling. Knitwear care matters more than most categories — the wrong wash advice leads to shrinkage, felting and returns.

Origin & identity

Common mistakes: fibre percentages that don't match the actual yarn, US-bound goods with only ISO care symbols (or vice versa), and missing country of origin. Decide market-specific labelling before bulk.

Our role

We apply the woven brand, care, size and origin labels you specify, and we can advise on fibre content and care guidance for the knit construction. Final labelling responsibility for your market sits with you as the brand — but we'll flag anything that looks off before it ships. Cover this in your tech pack, or ask us.
