Sourcing your first knit collection is a sequence, not a leap. Follow the steps in order and each one de-risks the next.
The step-by-step
- 1. Define the product & quantities. Styles, target price, rough volumes. Be realistic about a first run and the MOQ maths.
- 2. Build a tech pack. The single most important document — sketch, gauge, stitch, yarn, measurements, trims. See how to create one.
- 3. Shortlist manufacturers. Match MOQ, technique and gauge to your product. Use the 12-point checklist.
- 4. Get quotes — and read them. Compare like-for-like on the same Incoterm.
- 5. Sample. Order a first sample before committing. Refine through a few rounds to an approved PP sample.
- 6. Approve & produce. Sign off the PP sample; bulk runs in 45–60 days.
- 7. QC & ship. Final inspection, then export to your market.
